Astrobotic is a small company that is part of NASA's Catalyst program. This program foresees the development of partnerships with private companies for the development of rockets and transport spaceships, capable of placing cargo in lunar orbit or on its surface.

Astrobotic already has a partnership with ULA, the United Launch Alliance, for the launch of the first spacecraft of the the Peregrine series in 2019, a test flight that will carry just over 30 kilos of cargo and which aims to show to NASA and future clients the capabilities of the device.

The first commercial flight is expected to take place in 2020 and will carry 265 kilos of cargo for its customers, which can be as varied as scientific institutions, universities and even private individuals.

If all goes well, Astrobotic is already developing the future Griffin lunar module, with a capacity for 515 kg in orbit or 270 kg on the lunar surface.

On the company's website, which also has a partnership with DHL, called DHL MoonBox, to send personal objects to the Moon, it is already possible to simulate the transport of different types of cargo and have a forecast of the costs.

The future is there and the Moon is so close ...

A Astrobotic é uma pequena empresa, que faz parte do programa Catalyst da Nasa. Este programa prevê o desenvolvimento de parcerias com empresas privadas para o desenvolvimento de foguetões e naves de transporte, capazes de colocar carga em órbita lunar ou na sua superfície.

A Astrobotic já tem uma parceria com a ULA, United Launch Alliance, para o lançamento da primeira nave da série Peregrine em 2019, um voo de teste que transportará pouco mais de 30 quilos de carga e que tem como objectivo mostrar à Nasa e aos futuros clientes, as capacidades do aparelho.

O primeiro voo comercial deverá acontecer em 2020 e aí poderá já transportar 265 quilos de carga para os seus clientes, que poderão ser tão variados, como instituições cientificas, universidades e até particulares.

Se tudo correr bem, a Astrobotic já está a desenvolver o futuro módulo lunar Griffin, com capacidade para colocar 515 kg em órbita ou 270 kg na superfície lunar.

No site da empresa, que também tem uma parceria com a DHL, chamada DHL MoonBox, para o envio de objectos pessoais para a Lua, já é possível simular o transporte de diferentes tipos de carga e ter uma previsão dos custos.

O futuro está aí e a Lua é tão perto...
