But this Matisse is a prodigy of optics and electronics and with its technological coolness, capable of warming the soul and enthusing the most serious astronomers.
This revolutionary instrument has started to work, associated to the VLTI, Very Large Telescope Interferometer, which multiplies the VLT capacity by four.
Matisse, Multi AperTure Mid-Infrared SpectroScopic Experiment is a high-definition spectroscope that analyzes light at mid-infrared wavelengths and has already been tested in observations of the giant star Betelgeuse and will in the future study neighboring regions of black holes that are hiding in the nucleus of galaxies and protoplanetary discs of young stars.

Mas este Matisse é um prodígio da óptica e da electrónica e na sua frieza tecnológica, capaz de aquecer a alma e entusiasmar os mais sisudos astrónomos.
Este instrumento revolucionário começou a funcionar, associado ao VLTI, Very Large Telescope Interferometer, que multiplica por quatro a capacidade do VLT.
Matisse, Multi AperTure mid-Infrared SpectroScopic Experiment é um espectroscópio de alta definição que analisa a luz em comprimentos de onda de infravermelho médio e que já foi testado em observações da estrela gigante Betelgeuse e que no futuro irá estudar as regiões vizinhas dos buracos negros que se escondem no núcleo das galáxias e os discos protoplanetários de jovens estrelas.
O VLTI e Matisse prometem descobertas e imagens espectaculares até à inauguração do gigantesco ELT.
