Breakthrough Listen will use the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization) Parkes radio telescope in Australia to perform a full 1500-hour screening of the galactic plane and extremely dense areas of the nucleus, and dwarf galaxies of the periphery during this year.
The radio telescope has been modernized with the latest digital technology in terms of reception and management of prodigious amounts of data and therefore we can only hope that somewhere between the petabytes received and filtered by the latest algorithms there is a signal of intelligent life.
This is Seti on another level, with the financial and technological resources of Breakthrough Initiatives, thanks to the russian millionaire Yuri Milner.
O projecto Breakthrough Listen anunciou a pesquisa maciça de vida na Via Láctea, o rastreio de milhões de estrelas no plano da galáxia entre o Sol e o centro galáctico.
O Breakthrough Listen vai utilizar o radiotelescópio Parkes da CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization), na Austrália, para efectuar um rastreio com a duração total de de 1500 horas do plano galáctico e das zonas extremamente densas do núcleo e das galáxias anãs da periferia durante este ano.
O radiotelescópio foi modernizado com a a mais recente tecnologia digital, em termos de recepção e de gestão de quantidades prodigiosas de dados e portanto só nos resta esperar que algures, entre os petabytes recebidos e filtrados pelos mais recentes algoritmos se encontre um sinal de vida inteligente.
