MATISSE, novo instrumento do VLTI / MATISSE, new VLTI instrument

Matisse, é o nome poético e apropriado de um novo instrumento que está a caminho do Paranal, Chile, para integrar e ampliar as capacidades do VLTI, Very Large Telescope Interferometer.
Segundo o site da ESO, este aparelho irá combinar a luz recebida por até quatro dos oito telescópios que integram o VLTI e realizar observações ópticas e espectroscópicas.
O MATISSE e o VLTI juntos terão a capacidade de processamento de imagens equivalente a um super telescópio com 200 metros de diâmetro.
A evolução tecnológica dos actuais telescópios é espantosa e por isso, podemos esperar grandes descobertas, mesmo antes da estreia dos novos gigantes em construção.

Matisse, is the poetic and appropriate name of a new instrument that is on its way to Paranal, Chile, to integrate and expand the capabilities of the VLTI, Very Large Telescope Interferometer.
According to the ESO website, this device will combine the light received by up to four of the eight telescopes that integrate the VLTI and make optical and spectroscopic observations.
MATISSE and VLTI together will have the image processing capability equivalent to a super telescope with a 200 meters mirror in diameter.
The technological evolution of the current telescopes is amazing and so we can expect great discoveries even before the debut of the new giants under construction.
