Zwicky Transient Facility, um olho digital para espiar o céu / a digital eye to spy the sky

O Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF), é um sistema de observação automática e permanente do céu, que está a ser instalado no Observatório Palomar de Caltech, em San Diego e que inclui uma camera robótica de alta definição, capaz de captar numa única imagem centenas de milhares de estrelas e galáxias.
O objectivo deste sistema é visualisar em tempo real tudo o que acontece no firmamento, como estrelas variáveis, supernovas, o efeito devastador dos buracos negros nos astros que têm o azar de se aproximarem demais, asteróides, cometas, enfim, tudo o que mexa ou brilhe...

The Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) is an automatic, permanent sky observation system that is being installed at Caltech's Palomar Observatory in San Diego and includes a high-definition robotic camera capable of capturing in a single image hundreds of thousands of stars and galaxies.

The purpose of this system is to visualize in real time everything that happens in the sky, such as variable stars, supernovae, the devastating effect of black holes on stars that are too close, asteroids, comets, anything that moves or shine...
