AM 0644-741 is an enormous ring galaxy, which is 300 million light years from Earth, and which is the fruit of the titanic collision with another galaxy.
The Chandra space telescope has discovered that the gigantic ring houses a number of X-ray sources, whether they are black holes or neutron stars.
The combination of the visible light image obtained by Hubble and the X-ray image captured by the Chandra observatory is spectacular and enlightening.
