This instrument, which successfully removes most of the brightness from the observed stars, revealed the amazing accretion discs, with varying shapes and orientations, allowing even to see the effects of possible planets in formation.
As I already said in this blog, the European Southern Observatory and the sophisticated VLT will continue to surprise us with new and spectacular discoveries, at least until the inauguration of the giant Extremely Large Telescope (ELT).
O instrumento SPHERE, Spectro-Polarimetric High-contrast Exoplanet REsearch, acoplado ao telescópio número 3 do Very Large Telescope do ESO, conseguiu imagens fabulosas dos discos de poeira em redor de estrelas jovens.
Este instrumento que consegue remover com sucesso a maior parte da luminosidade das estrelas observadas, revelou os fantásticos discos de acreção, com formatos e orientações variadas, permitindo até ver os efeitos de possíveis planetas em formação.
Como já referi neste blog, o Observatório Europeu do Sul, e o sofisticado VLT, vão continuar a surpreender-nos com novas e espectaculares descobertas, pelo menos até à inauguração do gigantesco Extremely Large Telescope (ELT).

This camera makes approximate images of objects, in this case rocks, and works as a hand lens for geologists.
Em baixo, imagens obtidas pela Mars Lens Imager (MAHLI), nos últimos dias.
Esta câmara faz imagens aproximadas dos objectos, neste caso rochas, e funciona como uma lupa para os geólogos.

Rocket Lab, first commercial launch on 19 April / primeiro lançamento comercial em 19 de Abril /
The mission "It's Business Time" will put into orbit three satellites, two from Spire Global and one from GeoOptics.
The launch will be made by an Electron rocket, which will take off from Rocket Lab's private base on the Mahia peninsula in New Zealand.
It is an important test for a small aerospace business that has great aspirations in the satellite launch market.
A missão "It's Business Time" colocará em órbita três satélites, dois da Spire Global e um da GeoOptics.
O lançamento será feito por um foguetão Electron, que descolará da base privada da Rocket Lab na península de Mahia, na Nova Zelândia.
É um teste importante para uma pequena empresa que tem grandes aspirações no mercado de lançamento de satélites.

Orion Span, promises a hotel in space in 2022. / promete um hotel no espaço em 2022.
Orion Span is an aerospace company founded by Frank Bunger, which foresees the construction and placement of a luxury hotel, the Aurora Station, in a earth orbit of 322 kilometres.
It's a big challenge for any company and the first direct contender to the ambitious project of Robert Bigelow, CEO and owner of Bigelow Aerospace, which has specialized in building expandable modules, that wants to build multi-purpose orbital stations and is well in advance.
If Orion Span succeeds in achieving its project, we will see an exciting race to build habitats in Earth orbit and maybe even lunar...
According to the company, the hotel should have capacity for six people, two crew members and four guests, but it could also be used by space agencies and for scientific research.
If you have $ 9.5 million more and do not know what to do with them, you can invest in a 12-day vacation in space.

É um grande desafio para qualquer empresa e o primeiro concorrente directo ao projecto ambicioso de Robert Bigelow, CEO e dono da Bigelow Aerospace, que se especializou na construção de módulos expansíveis, que quer construir estações orbitais para vários fins e que está já bastante adiantado.
Se a Orion Span conseguir concretizar o seu projecto, iremos assistir a uma excitante corrida na construção de habitats em órbita terrestre e quem sabe até lunar.
Segundo a empresa, o hotel deverá ter capacidade para seis pessoas, dois tripulantes e quatro hóspedes, mas poderá também ser utilizado por agências espaciais e para investigação cientifica.
Se tem 9,5 milhões de dólares a mais e não sabe o que lhes fazer, pode investir numas férias de 12 dias no espaço.
O site da Orion Span não diz qual vai ser a empresa que vai colocar os módulos no espaço, mas pelas imagens que mostram a nave da Boeing, o (CST) -100 Starliner atracado à futura estação espacial é de prever que seja a ULA, United Launch Alliance.

ESO, through the Very Large Telescope and its MUSE (Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer) instrument, discovered an isolated neutron star in the Small Magellanic Cloud, hidden in the remains of the supernova that spawned it 2000 years earlier.
The small star was revealed by the expanding ring of light and the images of the VLT and the Chandra X-ray Observatory space telescope.
O ESO, através do Very Large Telescope e do seu instrumento MUSE ( Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer ) descobriram uma estrela de neutrões isolada, na Pequena Nuvem de Magalhães, escondida nos restos da supernova que lhe deu origem 2000 anos antes.
O pequeno astro foi revelado pelo anel de luz em expansão e pelas imagens do VLT e do telescópio espacial Chandra X-ray Observatory.
